From a previous posting you may have seen that Holman Specialist Paints were kind enough to send me testers of Tikkurila’s Otex Primer and Feelings Furniture Primer to test in my workshop on a small door.
Now, I’m happy to report that I have had opportunity to test their Otex High Performance Adhesion Primer and Feelings Furniture Paint in a live situation;
As part of a larger project, I tested the products on a bespoke James Mayor Furniture Linen Press, in a beautiful apartment in Surrey.
In my opinion, Otex is a Star Product, that I would score 95%… why mark it down by 5%??? purely due to the fact that it is a solvent borne product and does therefore have an inherent smell, which some clients and decorators may object to.
With the addition of a splash of Owatrol Oil, it’s flow out is superior and it’s finish is unbelievably flat. What a remarkable primer; the perfect base for Feelings Furniture Paint, which, incidentally is water borne. It’s is more akin to Farrow & Ball’s Exterior Eggshell (which is my usual covering), although, I did need to minutely change my application technique. The finish after applying two top coats was beautifully low sheen and did have quite a “plastic” feel – incredible! NB. I did also add a spot of Floetrol to add opacity, flow and coverage… which I do to all water borne paints, as a matter of course.
I shall, without doubt, be using more of Tikkurila’s paint next year. Not only is the paint without flaw (in my opinion and experience), but, Holman’s tinting skills were spot on. I ordered both coverings to be matched to Zoffany’s “Alabaster”. The furniture sat alongside walls that were painted in original Zoffany mixed colour and I could not detect any difference.
